The Ark Home Setting
The Ark childminding service is based at our home. It is a 3 bedroom terrace with gardens front and rear. It is situated on a road with a bus route (the number 11 stops right outside), we have gates at the front to ensure safety and the back garden is completely enclosed and secure.
Our outdoor space is very important to us and the children have access to this all year round. We are always thinking of new and initiative ways to engage the children to use the outdoor environment to learn, explore and investigate. We find using our ‘outdoor classroom’ as a great way to encourage children’s interest in learning and to enable them to engage in open ended activities which promote all aspects of learning and development.
The indoor resources are rotated regularly and are adapted to the suit the individual children in our care. We try not to ‘overload’ the children with masses of resources and prepare the learning area to suit the current children using their interests and their learning requirements as a guide. The Ark Childminding setting is ultimately a ‘home’ and becomes the children’s ‘second home’ where we want them, and you to feel comfortable and secure.
It is still a 'home' setting!!
We provide morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack. The children have a healthy home-cooked meal daily which takes into consideration any dietary requirements and preferences. We do not have a set menu as The Ark meals are based upon the children attending and their needs. All meals are made with good quality food with regards to low sugar and salt content. Fruit and vegetable are offered daily along with milk. We ask all parents on enrollment to fill out a dietary questionnaire to help us ensure we accommodate your child's requirements with their meals. We do not cook an evening meal as we have found many parents wish to spend this time with their children (as do we). However, if your child’s routine dictates that they eat their tea whilst still in our care, we are happy to serve a prepared meal sent from home.
We like to go on lots of outings in term time and during the holidays. We love to be outdoors and are happiest on nature walks and visits to rivers and ponds. We will often take the children to places such as the zoo, aquariums, Mini Railways, Petting Farms, Ball Parks etc. Some of the children’s favourite places have been Manchester Museum, Dunham park, Delamere forest, Redhouse Farm, Lego Land, Style Mill, River Bollin, Manchester Airport and the cinema. We have annual membership passes to Chester Zoo, The Blue Planet, Knowsley Safari Park and the National Trust. All outings are included in the service and there are never any additional fees.
All places that we visit are known to us and are risk assessed prior to the outing. On outings we carry emergency details and equipment and the children often wear high visibility jackets.
We operate a ‘secret’ facebook page which only parents with our permission are allowed to access. On this page we share with you daily feedback about activities, learning objectives, outings and meals.
We use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework to track and record children’s learning and development. Using an online package called ‘Orbit.so’ we provide parents with instant accessible information about what their child has been doing and their achievements.
